Martin Schram is a contributing columnist for Scripps Howard News Service. [CR-LF][CR-LF]Mr. Schram has served as a Washington journalist, author and editor for more than three decades. He launched his news career as a reporter for the Miami News in 1963. He joined Newsday as a reporter in 1965, and became senior editor and Washington bureau chief in 1972. He then joined the Washington Post in 1979. He has also served as associate editor/Sunday editor of the Chicago Sun-Times and Sunday editor of the Rocky Mountain News starting in 1986. He began his syndicated column in 1988. [CR-LF][CR-LF]Mr. Schram received the James Wright Brown Award from Sigma Delta Chi in 1966. He also received the 1988 Lowell Mellett Award for Outstanding Media Criticism from Penn State University. [CR-LF]He has appeared on ABC's Good Morning America and Nightline, CBS's 48 Hours and Face the Nation, CNN's Capital Gang and Crossfire, NBC's Today show and Meet the Press, PBS's MacNeil/Lehrer, and The McLaughlin Group. He also serves as a regular panelist on Issues in the News, produced by Voice of America. He is the author of "Running for President 1976: The Carter Campaign," "The Great American Video Game: Presidential Politics in the Television Age," "Speaking Freely: Former Members of Congress Talk About Money in Politics," "Cell Phones: Invisible Hazards in the Wireless Age" and "Avoiding Armageddon." Mr. Schram studied political science at the University of Florida, graduating in 1964.
