Ms. Payne Verified

Ms. January Payne is associate editor for U.S. News & World Report, where she is responsible for the Health and Medicine section. [CR-LF][CR-LF]Before transferring to the University of Maryland, College Park, Ms. Payne attended Harrisburg Area Community College for two years and was editor in chief for the school's newspaper, The Fourth Estate. In 2003, she graduated from the University of Maryland, with a bachelor's degree in journalism. While in school, she interned for USA Today and Capital News Service. She also wrote a feature story for a class, incorporating her personal experience with fibromyalgia, that was published in the Washington Post.[CR-LF][CR-LF]After graduating, Ms. Payne first interned with the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and then with the Washington Post. In 2004, the Washington Post hired Ms. Payne as a staff reporter on its health desk. Three years later, she moved on to become the editor of Health Plan Week before joining U.S. News & World Report.[CR-LF][CR-LF]Ms. Payne periodically teaches at the University of Maryland's Philip Merrill College of Journalism.
