Mr. Kim Verified

Leland Kim has been a general assignment reporter for KHNL-TV since June of 2007. Since joining the KHNL news team, he has covered some of the most influential stories to the Hawaiian community such as the earthquake of 2006, the 65th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor, the U.S. military and the Honolulu Marathon.[CR-LF][CR-LF]Mr. Kim's continuous coverage on animal cruelty cases in Hawaii resulted with Governor Linda Lingle converting a bill into a law that same year to increase the awareness of such issue. Prior to joining the KHNL news team, he served as a field reporter and lead anchor for a cable station in California.[CR-LF][CR-LF]While in California, he covered some of the most important stories such as the North Korean Missile Crisis, southern California wild fires and immigration. Another important topic that Mr. Kim focused on was gangs and gang culture. In fact, prior to becoming a journalist, he also served for the community in the private sector for a few years. He was a police officer, combat medic, and a pediatric hospital administrator.[CR-LF][CR-LF]Born in Korea, Mr. Kim enjoys surfing, hiking, scuba diving and running in his spare time. He is also a member of the Radio-Television News Directors Association, the Society of Professional Journalists and the Asian American Journalists Association. He earned his bachelor's degree in political science with a focus on military conflicts in the 20th century. Mr. Kim received his master's degree in journalism from Stanford University.
