Mr. Bussey Verified

Rick Burgess and Bill "Bubba" Bussey host a syndicated daily morning radio show known as The Rick & Bubba Show. Burgess and Bussey became friends at Jacksonville State University while working at the college radio station. Burgess was the afternoon radio guy and Bussey was the promotions director and engineer. Burgess went on to a maze of broadcasting jobs at WHMA-AM and FM, then on to a new '80s and '90s docket station WKFN now WVOK-FM in his hometown of Oxford, Ala. and a "spill" on the road as a rock singer in a band. Bussey began a career in directing the newscast at WJSU-TV in Anniston, Ala., and a part time job at WPID-AM in Piedmont, Ala. (where they would let him talk!). Bussey became manager of WJXL-AM and ended up as chief engineer for WQEN-FM/ WAAX-FM in Gadsden, Ala. When management was looking for a new morning man, Bussey recommended Burgess for the job. Before long, Burgess had nicknamed Bussey as ?Bubba? and the two became a broadcast team. In 1999, the duo switched over to WYSF-FM in Birmingham, which gave them a larger listening audience, allowing them pursue syndication of the show. The Rick and Bubba Show is simulcast on Turner South.
