Marion E. Broome has served as president of the Society for Pediatric Nurses and has been on the board of the Association for the Care of Children's Health and the Midwest Nursing Research Society. Broome is regarded as an expert, scholar, and leader in pediatric nursing research and practice. The American Cancer Society and National Institute of Health as well as private foundations have sponsored her research in pediatric pain and research ethics since 1991. Her research is published in over 65 papers in 45 refereed nursing, medicine and interdisciplinary journals. She also has published five books and 10 chapters in other books as well as in several consumer publications. Her two most recent studies, both funded by National Institutes of Health, are in the area of research ethics and informed consent for children. Broome receieved degrees from the Medical College of Georgia and University of South Carolina and a doctorate in child and family development from the University of Georgia.
