Treat Depression And Anxiety in a Post-Lockdown Ireland

Posted 21 Oct-2021 07:09 PM by Margaret | 731

On 22nd October, Ireland is leaving the COVID-19 lockdown behind it. At least that is the plan. And as much as lifting the restrictions and the need for COVID certificates will bring smiles to many faces, it won't erase the consequences this pandemic caused.

The reality is different, in most countries it is yet to be discovered just how many people suffered mentally, emotionally, and even physically from the fear of the virus and the measures that followed. As research is conducted, experts already believe one in every five persons in Ireland is increasingly suffering from anxiety, depression, or another form of psychological distress.

This is where depression and anxiety counselling comes in. Ireland's goal is and should be to improve and secure the mental health of its people or at least keep it from receding, however, the necessary steps have to be taken collectively.

When people suffer from mental distress, they have a difficult time living through everyday difficulties. It could be the smallest retort at work or a badly timed joke from a friend that sends a mentally or emotionally unhealthy person into a downward spiral.

However, it doesn't have to be like that.

Everyone can live a happy life, they just need to ask for help.

There are therapies like CBT and Reality Therapy designed to help in 6 to 12 weeks. Without digging deep into the past, there are techniques that help patients leave their cocoon reinforced by the lockdown and give them a chance to live a happier life again.

Both CBT and Reality Therapy are well-researched approaches, their effectiveness is well known and appreciated by the therapists. However, both therapies are also somewhat unknown to the general population. For this reason, sharing my patients' testimonials might help.

œEngage counselling was a great service from start to finish. I always felt welcome and knew I was in a safe environment to open up. It really helped my situation and I would highly recommend. Jane

œThanks to Margaret I have so much knowledge about myself and so many tools to use to keep myself grounded and in control of my anxiety and depression. Patricia

In the end, people should know there is always help for those who need it. For those concerned about their mental and emotional wellbeing, 086 3835910 or find help through this link
