Ms. Steinmetz Verified

Suzanne K. Steinmetz is credited as being one of the founders in the field of family violence and the first scholar to bring the problem of battered husbands and elder abuse into the public arena as a result of her Congressional testimony in 1978. Steinmetz is author/editor and co-author/editor of 11 books, including 'Sourcebook of Family Theory and Methods: A Contextual Approach,' 'Duty Bound: Elder Abuse and Family Care,' 'Family and Support Systems across the Life Span,' 'Handbook of Marriage and the Family,' 'Behind Closed Doors: Violence in American Families,' and 'Cycle of Violence: Assertive, Aggressive, and Abusive Family Interaction.' She has authored over 70 additional publications and has produced a curriculum for reducing conflict and violence in the school, two videos on elder abuse, and a computerized decision-making game for adolescents. She is professor and former chair of sociology at Indiana University-Purdue University, Indianapolis . Steinmetz does pro bono individual and family therapy with children and adults in crisis, and is currently working with individuals diagnosed with Dissociative Identity Disorder (formerly multiple personality disorder). Steinmetz has a Ph.D. and M.S.W., and is certified as a civil and family mediator for Indianapolis Superior Courts.
