Previous to his current assignment as sports director for WJSU-TV, Mike Raita was working in television-Best Sports Program ABC 33/40. He got his start in broadcasting in 1981 with CNN, but his career as a sportscaster started in Knoxville. Since then, in addition to Birmingham, he has worked in Cincinnati, Columbus and Dayton, Ohio. He is an Emmy Award-winning sportscaster. The Associated Press has named him the State Of Alabama's Best Sportscaster on several occasions and the Associated Press has also recognized his feature reporting. He has won the Southern League's Broadcaster Of The Year award twice. In his free time, he enjoys working around his home. He graduated from Ohio University in Athens in 1981.
