Joe Krebs broadcasting career began in Greensboro, North Carolina, where he produced and anchored Sunday newscasts. He was also the station's capital correspondent, covering the State House, governor's office, and politics in Raleigh, North Carolina. Also an attorney, Krebs' experience with the criminal justice system was valuable in his reporting on major trials including those of John Hinckley, Oliver North, the Walker Family spy ring, drug kingpin Rayful Edmond, O.J. Simpson, and John and Lorena Bobbitt. For several years he has also done a series of special reports focusing on Cold Cases in the Washington area, seeking to bring attention to unsolved murders in the hopes that investigators might get new leads. He is on the National Board of the union and is Chair of the National Broadcast Steering Committee. In 1996, 1997, 1998, 2001, and 2003, Krebs participated in long distance bicycle rides to raise money for AIDS service programs in Washington, D. C.
