Mr. Brad Huffines is currently the Chief Meteorologist for WAAY 31 News. He leads the Doppler Force 31 Weather Team in their daily forecasting and weather presentations as well as redefining the station's Severe Weather coverage. Available to speak to schools, businesses and civic organizations, Brad has given hundreds of presentations on weather safety, history, and forecasting techniques. Brad brings with him a unique blend of forecasting accuracy and personality which has made him a favorite among television weather viewers everywhere he was worked.[CR-LF][CR-LF]Brad is also still a freelance meteorologist and weather consultant at CNN in Atlanta, GA. Before joining WAAY 31 News, he performed live and taped weather broadcasts for CNN, Headline News and CNN Airport Network. He also joined the FEMA team of adjunct instructors in 1997 after attending the Hurricane Integrated Emergency Management Course for Savannah, Georgia as a participant. At the time, he was a broadcast meteorologist in a very active hurricane belt. Previously, he helped launch and worked for WeatherPLUS, a developing weather network in Europe and the United States. He managed and oversaw the meteorology operations of the company's European networks in the Netherlands, developing content for additional networks in United Kingdom, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, Spain and Italy. He was also the Chief Meteorologist for WSPA-TV in Spartanburg, South Carolina, where he was awarded the 2002 Associated Press Best Weathercast and the award as the 2002 Weathercaster of the Year by the South Carolina Broadcasters' Association.[CR-LF][CR-LF]He also worked for WSAV-TV in Savannah, GA from 1989 until 1999 as the Chief Meteorologist. Mr. Huffines has twice been awarded the Georgia Associated Press Award for Best Weather Reporting and was three times runner-up. His unique blend of forecasting accuracy and personality made him a favorite among Savannah television viewers. Concurrent with his television work, Brad also performed the weather on Savannah's WAEV-FM, WLVH-FM, WCHY-FM, and WSOK-AM radio stations until August of 2003.[CR-LF][CR-LF]Brad was the Instructor of Meteorology for Armstrong Atlantic State University from 1990 to 1999, and taught over 600 students in that time. His teaching experience opened the door to being an expert witness in a federal court case. He has taken the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Emergency Management Institute's Integrated Emergency Management Course on Hurricanes, and is one of only a handful of media meteorologists nationwide who has done so.[CR-LF][CR-LF]His career as a meteorologist began in 1985 in Oklahoma City, where he was working for the Oklahoma Educational Television Authority. Growing up in Oklahoma City, his lifelong dream has been to be a broadcast meteorologist. He began his first commercial broadcasting position as Chief Meteorologist at KXII-TV in Sherman, Texas, in May of 1985. In 1988, KTUL-TV of Tulsa, Oklahoma, asked him to be their weekend meteorologist and science reporter. [CR-LF][CR-LF]Mr. Huffines earned his B.S. Degree in Meteorology in 1985 from the University of Oklahoma; the nation's premiere severe weather research institution. He was awarded the Television Seal of Approval from the American Meteorological Society in 1987.
