Mrs. Hawver Verified

Vickie Griffith Hawver is the co-owner and managing partner of Hawver News Company. Her work on Hawver's Capitol Report includes occasionally reporting and writing, editing, designing/desktop publishing the newsletter, maintaining the subscriber e-mail list, marketing and managing the business.[CR-LF][CR-LF]Prior to founding the Hawver News Company, Hawver worked for the Topeka Capital-Journal for over 15 years. Early on in her stint at the newspaper, she worked as a general assignment reporter and Friday/Saturday nights police reporter. Hawver was later assigned to cover Topeka's health industry. Eventually, she was named health editor and instituted, designed and edited a three-page health section. [CR-LF][CR-LF]In 1977, she married Martin Hawver, a co-worker at the newspaper. She left the paper in 1991 to start the Hawver News Company. Two years later, Martin joined her. Later, Vickie expanded the newsletter in 1999 into a news service by initiating the e-mail update component. [CR-LF][CR-LF]Hawver is a former president of Topeka Press Women, a 1996 graduate of Leadership Greater Topeka, and has served as an adjunct instructor in Washburn University's mass media department. She has been a member of the Junior League of Topeka since 1989 and has served five times on the league's board of directors. Hawver has held many offices with the league, including president in 1996-97 and chair of the Everybody Wins! When Adults Read With Children project in 1998-99.[CR-LF][CR-LF]Hawver is a graduate of Washburn University of Topeka, where she was editor of the Review, the student newspaper.
