Charles Gibson's first broadcasting job was with RKO Network in 1966 before he joined ABC affiliate WJLA-TV in 1970. Gibson joined ABC News in 1974. Prior to joining WJLA-TV, he had been news director for WLVA-TV and Radio in Lynchburg, Va.[CR-LF][CR-LF]Gibson covered local, national, and political news as co-host of ABC's Good Morning America program. He also contributed reports for PrimeTime Thursday, World News Tonight With Peter Jennings, Nightline, and World News This Morning. He also was chief correspondent at the House of Representatives for ABC News starting in January of 1981. In May 29, 2006 Gibson became the sole anchor of ABC's World News Tonight.[CR-LF][CR-LF]In 1973, Gibson was named as a National Journalism Fellow at the University of Michigan by the National Endowment for the Humanities.
