The Deming Prize is an annual award given to individuals or

groups of people who have contributed to the improvement of society through the
development, introduction, and utilization of new methods for increasing
quality and productivity. 

The Deming Prize was established in 1993 by the Japan Union
of Scientists and Engineers (JUSE) in honor of Dr. W. Edwards Deming, an
American Statistician, professor, author, lecturer and consultant who played a
major part in transforming post-war Japan into a successful economic superpower. 

The Deming Prize celebrates excellence in quality
management practices that improve social conditions through innovation. The
prize is awarded annually on March 14th (Dr. W. Edwards Deming's birthday) to
honor those who have made outstanding contributions to society through their
work on improving quality and productivity 

Why the Deming Prize

The Deming Prize is awarded to organizations that have demonstrated
a commitment to total quality management and sustained significant improvements
in their performance. 

The prize is awarded by the W. Edwards Deming Institute,
which was established in 1993 as a not-for-profit organization to advance the
principles of Dr. Deming's management system and educate people about those
principles. 

To qualify for a Deming prize, an organization must show
commitment to the following: 

1) Total Quality Management (TQM) 

2) Sustained Significant Improvement (SSI) 

3) Demonstrated Results 

How to Apply for the
Deming Prize? 

The Deming Prize is given to companies that have
contributed to the improvement of management in the workplace. 

The company must meet the following requirements: 

- The company must be in operation for at least three years. 

- The company must have revenue of at least $10 million. 

- The company must show continuous and substantial
improvement in its management system during the past three years.
