Ms. Wilson Verified

Brenda Wilson is a science desk correspondent and editor for National Public Radio. Based in Washington, Wilson reports on national and international public health, legislation, the White House, and current political and social issues. She also serves as an analyst and commentator on such national television news shows as BET's 'Lead Story' and 'BET Tonight'; and PBS affiliate WHUT's 'Evening Exchange.'[CR-LF][CR-LF]Over the years, her assignments have taken her on the campaign trail with Jesse Jackson and into the Nation of Islam. She has traveled to cities and small towns in the U.S. to report on the overhauling of social service systems, the epidemics of AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases, tuberculosis, and the addiction and violence linked to 'drug wars.' Recently, Wilson has traveled to southern Africa to examine the social, cultural, and political forces driving the AIDS epidemic there. [CR-LF][CR-LF]In 1999 Wilson was awarded a Kaiser Media Fellowship to do in-depth reporting on AIDS and HIV prevention in South Africa. She has shared a DuPont/Columbia Award for 'Breaking the Silence,' an NPR series on AIDS in the black community, which also won an award from the National Association of Black Journalists.
