Betsy Webster came to KCTV-TV 5 News in 1999 and currently reports for KCTV5 News at 10:00. Before coming to Kansas City, she worked as a reporter and anchor at the western Kansas bureau in Garden City, Kan., for Wichita's KAKE-TV, and as a reporter and producer for KOMU-TV in Columbia, Mo. [CR-LF]After college she worked in the Boston area in restaurants and entertainment venues and as a commercial property manager. [CR-LF][CR-LF]Her interest in journalism lies in exploring the motivations and expressions of the human spirit and what happens when people interact. She hopes that making people aware of what is common to all and unique to one will create a better understanding of all that happens, including news events.[CR-LF][CR-LF]Ms. Webster grew up in the Philadelphia area. As the daughter of an immigrant mother, she was fortunate to have made three trips to Europe as a child and teen. She recalls watching East German soldiers guarding the walled border just a bicycle ride from her grandmother's house, shooting pool in Berlin just months after the fall of the Wall, and being refused genuine Pilsner during Prague's first free election since before World War II.[CR-LF][CR-LF]Ms. Webster relaxes with crafts like jewelry-making and sewing. She is also interested in reading and music. Out on the town, she enjoys occasional weekends with her husband at the off-leash dog park, sporadic visits to the gym, watching local bands, and partner dancing. [CR-LF][CR-LF]Ms. Webster received her bachelor's of arts degree in political science and women's studies from Wellesley College in 1992. She earned her master's of arts degree from the University of Missouri School of Journalism.
