Mr. Vance Verified

Jim Vance joined WRC-TV in 1969 as a general assignment reporter. He moved to the anchor desk in 1972. [CR-LF][CR-LF]Mr. Vance began his career in Philadelphia as a reporter for the Philadelphia Independent newspaper and part-time reporter for radio station WHAT-AM while also teaching in the public school system. In 1968, he accepted a position as a reporter for WKBS-TV in Philadelphia. [CR-LF][CR-LF]He earned numerous awards and honors throughout his career which include: 15 Emmy Awards, induction into the journalists Hall of Fame, and membership in the Silver circle of the Washington Chapter of the National Association of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS). He also holds the Ted Yates Award for outstanding community service and was honored as a Washingtonian of the Year. Most recently in 2007, Mr. Vance was inducted into the 2007 Hall of Fame by the National Association of Black Journalists.[CR-LF][CR-LF]A native of Ardmore, Pa., Mr. Vance holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education from Cheyney University in Cheyney, Pa.
