Zarko Sumic, Ph.D., provides innovative strategic and operational advice to Gartner energy clients using his extensive IT leadership and business experience. Dr. Sumic has over 29 years of IT experience in academia, the energy industry, and with technology providers. He is an established leader in applying information technology in the energy industry. [CR-LF][CR-LF]Dr. Sumic joined Gartner in April 2005 with the acquisition of META Group. Before META Group, where had worked since March 2001, Dr. Sumic was a chief technology officer of ConneXt, an unregulated subsidiary of Puget Sound Energy, responsible for design, development and deployment of a new customer information system. As a founding member of the ConneXt executive team, he held various senior management positions, including GM of the CIS business unit. As vice president of technology and product development, he was managing and directing the development of three company product lines (CIS, OMS/GIS, and C&I EBPP consolidation platform). Prior to ConneXt, Dr. Sumic was a vice president of technology and product development of TELLUS, responsible for all aspects of the development process and architecting suite of software applications which support planning, operation, engineering and mapping needs of an electric utility, using GIS technology. Before co-founding TELLUS during his tenure as a university professor, his research interest included power system control, EMS and artificial intelligence application in utility networks design. [CR-LF][CR-LF]Dr. Sumic holds a B.S. in engineering from the University of Split in Croatia, and M.S. from the University of Zagreb in Croatia, and a Ph.D. from the University of Washington in Seattle. He also has executive training in Technology Product Development and Financial Management from Caltech and the University of Washington.
