Gary Shapiro joined 9News in 1983 as the Boulder Bureau reporter. In 1989, he became the anchor of 9News Daybreak, 9News 6 a.m. and 9News at noon. Aside from his anchoring duties, he also produced a number of television specials and documentaries. Additionally, he anchors at KTVD-TV.[CR-LF][CR-LF]Shapiro earned numerous awards, including regional Emmys, Best of Gannett, and awards from the Colorado Broadcaster's Association. He also won the coveted 1992 Edward R. Murrow award for documentary reporting.[CR-LF][CR-LF]Shapiro lives in the metro area with his wife and two children. He enjoys biking, skiing, and sleeping.[CR-LF][CR-LF]Shapiro is a graduate of the University of Nebraska with a degree in broadcast journalism. He also holds a Master's degree in mass communications from Iowa State University.
