
Nathalie Bertrams is an award-winning freelance photographer
and journalist who publishes in major newspapers such as The Guardian,
Süddeutsche Zeitung, Al Jazeera, De Groene Amsterdammer and the Mail &
Guardian.
She is a National Geographic Explorer, a Fellow of the
Robert Bosch Foundation and has received multiple reporting grants, e.g. from
the Pulitzer Centre on Crisis Reporting, Free Press Unlimited and the European
Journalism Center. Her reporting focuses mainly on underreported environment
and development issues.
She was awarded the 2018 Hostwriter Story Prize for a story
on vanilla and illegal rosewood trade in Madagascar and received the Lorenzo
Natali Media Prize for a reportage on gold mining in Mozambique in 2016.
Nathalie studied Fine Arts in the Netherlands, the USA and Germany and has a
master’s degree from Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, Germany.
