John Monahan is a general assignment reporter for FOX25 News. He joined WFXT in June 2003. Before coming to WFXT, Monahan worked at another Boston news station for three years. During that time, he covered the presidential debates in 2000, the Wakefield shootings, and the aftermath of the 9/11 tragedy. He was on assignment the night the shoe bomber Richard Reid attempted to blow up an American Airlines flight, which was later diverted to Boston's Logan airport. Prior to working in Boston, Monahan spent two years as bureau chief for the CBS affiliate in Monterey, California. Before that, he was weekend anchor/reporter and later primary anchor for the FOX affiliate in Salinas, California. He spent nine years covering news on the West Coast, but is a native of Boston. Monahan is fluent in Spanish and earned an academic scholarship to study abroad in Salamanca, Spain. He is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.
