IMANE RACHIDI

Imane Rachidi is a journalist based in Den Haag, Netherlands.

 I have spent most of my life stumbling around the world, growing up and admiring cultures and ways of life. I was born in Morocco, I grew up in Spain and I understood life in various countries. I fell in love with journalism when I met the microphones of Cadena Ser, where I learned the wonders of counting the streets in sound images. In that writing I covered the assassination of Gaddafi and the ETA ceasefire, but also the Arab Spring, the death of Miliki and Chávez, or the atypical escape of Edward Snowden. I went to Cairo to cover the coup with Mohamed Mursi and I ended up falling in love with a region that I always wanted to head towards. The Efe Agency welcomed me in 2013 to start my dream of being a correspondent in the Arab-Muslim countries, even if it was in one of the most tragic moments for the region: from the return of the military regime to Egypt, through the war in Yemen, to the war in Syria and the declaration of the "caliphate" by the Islamic State. But I was also able to recount the death of the King of Saudi Arabia in 2015 and the feminist struggle of women in the region to gain a foothold in politics, in institutions, or to end practices that oppress them, such as female cutting in women. The Netherlands was only going to be a small scale, but it turned into five years of experience as a freelance correspondent writing and speaking for media such as Agencia Efe, El Mundo, El Confidencial, the BBC, Cadena Ser, DW, The Huffington Post, among others.
