Maria Downey serves as anchor of 2 Newshour week nights at KTUU-TV. Downey is also an executive producer. She joined the news team in 1985. [CR-LF][CR-LF]Downey received numerous statewide journalism awards throughout the years, along with regional and national honors for her investigative work in Alaska and stories that brought her to other nations, including Russia, Japan, Mexico, Ireland and Vietnam.[CR-LF][CR-LF]Downey is married and has two children. The "extended" Downey family includes a horse, a Sheltie, and a turtle.[CR-LF][CR-LF]Downey was born in New York, but lived in Florida until her move to Alaska in 1981. [CR-LF][CR-LF]She holds a Bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism with a minor in political science from the University of Florida in Gainesville.
