CLARE MACCARTHY

Clare MacCarthy is a journalist based in Copenhagen, Denmark.

I have worked as Denmark correspondent for the Economist since 1998 (and for the Financial Times) covering Nordic business, financial and political news. In a journalistic career spanning more than 20 years that has taken me from the Arctic to the Gobi desert (and Turtle Bay and Berlaymont too), I get to write about an immense range of subjects. I also broadcast internationally and have written for the Wall Street Journal, the BBC, the Economist Intelligence Unit, the Irish Times and Forbes magazine. I was also the lead author and editor of “Denmark Limited, Global by Design”, a well-received anthology of Danish corporate history (2006).

My interest in international relations, macroeconomics, finance and corporate affairs is supplemented by increasing familiarity with development issues. Noteworthy work in this area include reporting assignments (for The Economist) to the UN High Level Forum on Aid Effectiveness in Accra and the UN Commission on Sustainable Development in New York . I am currently studying part-time for an MA in Development Aid at Copenhagen University.
