Terra Brantley anchors First News This Morning and the noon news on WANE-TV in Fort Wayne, Ind. She is also a contributing writer for Ink newspaper,[CR-LF][CR-LF]She began her professional career at WPDE-TV in Florence/Myrtle Beach, S.C. During her tenure, she held almost every position in the news department except news director. She was a producer, executive producer, morning anchor and prime time anchor. In 1993, she moved to Fort Wayne and spent six weeks as weekend anchor at WKJG-TV before joining the team at WANE-TV. Her contribution helped catapult WANE-TV's morning news to its highest rating in station history. From March 2005 to February 2006, she represented Northeast Indiana as an accomplished minority journalist in a special exhibit at the Indiana State Museum in Indianapolis. The Spread the Word exhibit recognized minority journalists who have made significant community contributions in their respective fields. In the community, she has held leadership positions while volunteering with such group as the March of Dimes of Northeast Indiana, Healthier Moms & Babies, The Unity Performing Arts Foundation, The Fort Wayne Urban League Task Force, The United Way and The Fort Wayne African-American Cancer Alliance. She is also a certified fitness instructor at the YMCA and a member of the National Association of Black Journalists. [CR-LF][CR-LF]Brantley has won such awards as: Indiana Black Expo's 2008 Broadcast Media Award, Society of Professional Broadcast Journalists award, Indiana Broadcasters Association Spectrum Award, Indiana Black Expo's Lis Daily Crawford Broadcast Media Award, NAACP's Media Award, YWCA's Women of Achievement Award, and the Fort Wayne chapter of the Indiana Black Expo's Torch Bearer Award. A native of Cleveland, Ohio, she graduated with honors from Bedford High School in 1982 as the class commencement speaker. As a McGraw-Hill scholarship winner, she went on to graduate from Ohio University in Athens, earning a bachelor's degree in communications with a minor in business administration. In her spare time, she travels the region as a motivational speaker, speaking candidly about overcoming obstacles and escaping the hardships of domestic violence. She lives with her husband and children in rural east Allen County near Monroeville, Ind.
