Mr. Bernson Verified

Barry Bernson began his journalism career in radio and newspapers in 1964 in his hometown of Pompton Lakes, N.J. He was a radio news anchor for the old WAVE-AM 970. He began his TV career in 1970, and in 1972 became a full-time feature reporter under the title WAVE Country. In 1976, he moved to Chicago, continuing his feature reports (retitled Barry's People) for WMAQ-TV, the NBC-owned station. He also was a leading contributor to NBC News Overnight with Linda Ellerbee and Lloyd Dobyns. Returning to Louisville in 1985, Bernson created the video columns Bernson's Corner and Off The Beaten Path for WHAS-TV. He moved to the studio desk in 1992 as the original co-anchor of Good Morning Kentuckiana, later adding the noon news to his assignments. Mr. Bernson has won three Midwest Emmy awards from the Ohio Valley chapter of the Television Academy, as well as Best Feature awards from the Associated Press in Illinois, Indiana and Kentucky. He is also a repeat winner in the feature category of the Metro Louisville Journalism Awards. He graduated from the University of Iowa.
