Mr. Barker Verified

Mr. Rocky Barker is an environmental reporter for the Idaho Statesman. [CR-LF][CR-LF]Barker has won four Blethen Awards for Journalism Excellence from the Pacific Northwest Newspaper Association. He was also nominated for the Pulitzer Prize. One of his books, Endangered Species Act, was cited for "excellence in achievement" by the Sigurd F. Olson Nature Writing judges. In 1999, the Idaho Political Almanac named him one of the Idaho's 100 most influential people. In 1998 the American Sportfishing Association awarded him the Excellence in Fisheries Conservation award. In 1995, he was named one of the top 25 conservationists in Idaho by the Idaho Earth Fest Committee. [CR-LF][CR-LF]Barker has also won awards for his salmon conservation efforts. He formerly worked as the managing editor of the Rhinelander Daily News in Wisconsin and as a lead reporter of the Idaho National Engineering Laboratory. Barker holds a bachelor's degree in environmental studies from Northland College in Ashland, Wisconsin. He is also a fellow of the Knight School of Specialized Journalism at the University of Maryland.
