Osamu Motojima is an executive board member and deputy director of the General National Institutes of Natural Sciences. He won the following awards: the 1994 Research Paper Prize, the dielectric breakdown property and the forerunning phenomenon of pressurized superfluid helium; the Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan, in 1994; in 1997, the Technical Progress Prize Experiments on a Single Inner Vertical Coil (EXSIV) for the Large Helical Device, Japan Society of Plasma Science and Nuclear Fusion Research; and in 2001 the Superconductivity Science and Technology Prize, among many others. He is a member of the Japan Society of Plasma Science, the Nuclear Fusion Research Atomic Energy Society of Japan, the Physical Society of Japan Cryogenics and Superconductivity Society, and the American Nuclear Society. He graduated from Kyoto University with a degree in Physics in 1971. In 1973 and he received his masters in physics, and in 1976 he received his doctorate in electrical engineering, all from Kyoto University.
