Karen Hensel anchors News 8 on UPN for WNDY-TV. She also anchors for WISH-TV.[CR-LF][CR-LF]Hensel joined WISH-TV News 8 in January 2000 as an investigative reporter for the I-Team. Before coming to WISH-TV, she was the primary anchor for WANE-TV in Fort Wayne, Ind. She joined WANE-TV in 1989, as a reporter and noon anchor. Prior, Hensel worked at WOWO-AM radio in Fort Wayne, Ind., as a news anchor and reporter. She also worked at WIOU-AM/WZWZ-FM radio in Kokomo, Ind., and at WXUS-FM in Lafayette, Ind. Hensel made her first appearance as a television reporter while still in college at West Lafayette television station, WLFI-TV.[CR-LF][CR-LF]Hensel earned numerous awards for outstanding journalism, including two Peabody awards, a regional Emmy award, a national Emmy nomination, an Edward R. Murrow Award, a Scripps Howard award, a Gabriel award, a Golden Viddy award, a CAN award, an Indiana Broadcasters Association's Spectrum award, two IRIS's award, a Bronze Quill award, and several awards from the Associated Press. She also has many awards for investigative reports, including The American Women in Radio and Television's Gracie Allen award for her series about health and environmental concerns related to children's playscapes in community parks.
