Dr. Luke Glancy was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on October 17, 1934. He was raised in Atlanta, Georgia where he was graduated from Marist High School and received a BA degree from Emory University. His MD degree was obtained from The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland. Internal medicine training was at The Johns Hopkins Hospital and Atlanta?s Grady Memorial Hospital where he was Chief Resident in Medicine. Dr. Glancy?s cardiology training was at Grady and at the National Heart Institute in Bethesda, Maryland. He served in the United States Public Health Service from 1966 to 1968 and was assigned to the National Heart Institute, and he subsequently stayed there for another 4 years as Chief of the Cardiovascular Diagnosis Section.[CR-LF][CR-LF]In 1972 Dr. Glancy was recruited to New Orleans as Chief of Cardiology at the Louisiana State University Medical School. In 1974, he became Medical Director of Cardiology at Hotel Dieu Hospital, a position he held for 18 years. He returned to academic medicine in 1992 as Chief of Cardiology both at LSU and at University Hospital. He continued private practice until 1999. He currently serves as Professor of Medicine, Director of the Cardiology Fellowship Training Program, and Emeritus Chief of the Section of Cardiology at LSU and is a staff physician at the Medical Center of Louisiana (Charity and University Hospitals).[CR-LF][CR-LF]Dr. Glancy joined the American Heart Association in 1966 and has been a fellow of its Council on Clinical Cardiology since 1970, twice serving as the Council?s Mississippi/Louisiana representative. He has served the Louisiana Affiliate of the AHA in many capacities and was its president in 1982-83. Dr. Glancy also is a fellow of the American College of Physicians and of the American College of Cardiology. He is a member of The Society for Cardiac Angiography and Interventions, which he helped found in 1978, the Southeastern Clinical Club, the Southern Society for Clinical Investigation, the American Federation for Clinical Research, and the New Orleans Academy of Internal Medicine. He serves on the Board of Trustees of the Medical Center of Louisiana Foundation. He has served on the editorial boards of Medical Letter, Catheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions, the American Journal of Cardiology, and Baylor University Medical Center Proceedings. He has been visiting Principal Fellow at the Royal Brompton Hospital and Imperial School of Medicine, London, UK and Visiting Professor of Cardiology at the Shick Cardiac Education Center, Naples, Florida.[CR-LF][CR-LF]Dr. Glancy?s research interests have centered around clinical cardiology and cardiovascular pathophysiology. He has published over 150 articles in peer-review medical journals.[CR-LF][CR-LF]Dr. Glancy is married to the former Cynthia Forrest. He has 3 children: Helen, David, and Mark and 4 grandchildren: Ted, Anne, Keiley and Luke.
