Derrick Wilkerson is a general assignment reporter for WXIN-TV. He joined the news team in 1992. [CR-LF][CR-LF]He also worked at WFIE-TV in Evansville, Ind., and at WHP-TV in Harrisburg, Pa. [CR-LF][CR-LF]His stories helped WXIN-TV win two Emmy Awards for news magazine shows. Wilkerson was nominated for an award by the Society of Professional Journalists. The Indiana Judges Association also recognized his work in crime reporting. Wilkerson earned the President's Award from the Indiana Black Expo and an education reporter award from the Indianapolis Education Association. [CR-LF][CR-LF]Wilkerson is a proud member of the National Association of Black Journalists Indianapolis chapter. He is also a member of Eastern Star Church, and a volunteer teacher at IPS School 11. A short film he produced was nominated for a BET educational grant. [CR-LF][CR-LF]Wilkerson and his wife are the parents of five children. He is an Indiana native. [CR-LF][CR-LF]Wilkerson holds a degree in Radio/TV Communications from the University of Evansville in Indiana.
