What Happened To Alien 3’s Sole Survivor Morse (According To Canon)

What happened to Alien 3’s sole survivor Morse following the events of the 1992 sequel? Alien 3 is easily one of the most controversial sequels of all time, with first-time director David Fincher delivering a nihilistic slice of sci-fi horror. The movie suffered through a messy production with a fluctuating script and conflict between Fincher and the studio over the movie’s tone. It may have disappointed many audiences and critics upon release in 1992, but the movie – especially its extended 2003 cut – has been reappraised much more warmly.

While the previous entry Aliens may have yielded a high bodycount, the sheer hopelessness of Alien 3 was a turn-off for many viewers. It opened with the reveal that Hicks and Newt were killed in a crash – essentially rendering the finale of Aliens pointless – while Sigourney Weaver’s Ripley was stranded on a prison planet with murderers, rapists and a particularly aggressive new strain of Xenomorph. The movie also closes with Ripley committing suicide to ensure the Alien Queen she’s been impregnated with doesn’t fall into the hands of Weyland-Yutani.

It speaks to the movie’s commitment to its unforgiving tone that the only survivor of the attack on “Fury” 161 is Morse, played by Danny Webb. Morse is very much a supporting character throughout Alien 3 and is one of the convicts on the planet who took up religion. Despite this, he’s far from zen and spends most of his screentime insulting or shouting at people, including threatening to run Ripley’s head through a wall. He ultimately helps her take her own life and is later walked out in chains by Weyland-Yutani in the final scene, but what happened from there?

Morse in Alien 3

Neither the character nor Danny Webb have returned to the series, but the expanded universe book Alien: The Weyland-Yutani Report by S.D Perry sheds some light on Morse’s later life. Naturally, the company wasn’t going to let him go out of the goodness of their hearts, so he was swiftly thrown into another prison facility. He lost his faith following the events of Alien 3 – understandably – but he became known for penning a book about the whole nightmare, titled Space Beast.

The book was swiftly banned to cover up what happened at Fury 161, but Alien: The Weyland-Yutani Report reveals that Winona Ryder’s Call from Alien: Resurrection read the text. The latter is a good explanation for how she seemed to know so much about the creature, despite 200 years having passed since the events of Alien 3. Morse himself would later pass away in 2208 while in his late 60s.
