Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte emerged as a possible top contender for president in the 2022 national elections, according to the result of a recent Pulse Asia national survey.
The survey, conducted on 2,400 respondents from November 23 to December 2, 2020, said about a quarter or 26% of adult Filipinos would support a probable presidential bid of Mayor Duterte, daughter of President Rodrigo Duterte
“If the May 2022 presidential election was held during the survey period, around one (1) out of every four (4) Filipino adults (26%) would vote for Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte as the country’s new chief executive,” Pulse Asia said.
The survey showed her lead is anchored on her dominance in Mindanao and Visayas, where she rated 58% and 29%, respectively.
Tied on second place, meanwhile, is former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and Senator Grace Poe, who both scored 14%.
Placing third is Manila City Mayor Isko Moreno, with 12%, followed by Senator Manny Pacquiao with 10%.
Marcos, son of the late President Ferdinand Marcos, ranked first in the National Capital Region with a 20% rating, eclipsing Moreno’s 18%.
Pacquiao, who, like Mayor Duterte, hails from Mindanao, scored 9% in Mindanao.
Vice President Leni Robredo, the only clear-cut bet from the opposition in the list, ranked sixth with 8%.
Robredo ranked highest in Balanced Luzon with a 13% rating, the only area where she has a double-digit score.
For preferences for vice president, Moreno topped the probable bets with 17% but Mayor Duterte was a very close second at 16%.
Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III ranked third with 14%, followed by Marcos and Pacquiao, who both got 11%. Senator Christopher “Bong” Go ranked sixth with 9%.
Pacquiao, however, topped the list for possible Senate bets with 62.1% rating.
Broadcaster Raffy Tulfo and Mayor Duterte placed second to fourth with 54.3% and 50.9% rating, respectively, followed by Moreno (48.4%), Sorsogon Governor Francis Escudero (46.7%) and Taguig Representative Alan Peter Cayetano (46%).
Rounding up the top 12 are Antique Representative Loren Legarda with 45.6%, Marcos with 41.8%, Senator Panfilo Lacson with 38.2%, Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri with 35.7%, Senator Sherwin Gatchalian with 28.1%, and former Senator Jinggoy Estrada with 28%.
