He might be out of power now but Donald Trump’s kids are still keeping up the façade that their dad was the greatest American President to have ever lived.
Lately, it’s been Eric Trump’s turn to praise his father’s four year term, which officially ended on January 20 having been beaten soundly by new President Joe Biden in the November elections last year.
Eric Trump took to Fox News (where else?) to big up his dad and took a typically defensive display in which he criticised the Democrats for seeking to impeach the man some would argue incited the protests that led to an attack on the Capitol building on January 6.
Talking to Sean Hannity, Eric Trump fumed: “They tried to manufacture everything under the sun against my father, against all of us. They do it every single day.
“They continue to do it. Even when he’s a private citizen, they’re still trying to impeach him.”
That showed a clear misunderstanding of how the impeachment process works, which does in fact allow you to try a former President. Never mind.
He then continued that “they” (the Democrats) want to “tar and feather the man. They know he did a great job for this nation. They know that there’s never been a more beloved political figure in our country’s history.”
So is Eric Trump correct?
Well, no. Donald Trump ended his presidency with a 34% approval rating which, if you want to compare, pales in comparison to the 59% approval rating that his predecessor Barack Obama boasted upon his departure from office.
