Barack Obama wishes his ‘best friend,’ wife Michelle, a happy birthday

Former First Lady Michelle Obama turned 57 on Sunday, and her loving husband broadcast his adoration and gratitude to the world.

“Happy birthday to my love, my partner, and my best friend,” tweeted her husband, who just happens to be former President Barack Obama. “Every moment with you is a blessing.”

Married since 1992, they share daughters Malia, 22, and Sasha, 19.

He admitted to People in an exclusive interview in November that they did struggle in their marriage while he served two presidential terms – themes he also touched on in his recent memoir, “A Promised Land.”

“That was the truth of our time in the White House,” Barack told People. “During the time we were there, Michelle felt this underlying tension. The pressure, stress, of needing to get everything right, to be ‘on’ at every moment. There were times where I think she was frustrated or sad or angry but knew that I had Afghanistan or the financial crisis to worry about, so she would tamp it down.”

Another tribute came from Vice President-elect Kamala Harris, who tweeted, “Thank you for pouring every ounce of yourself into empowering the next generation of leaders. Our country, and myself, are better off because of you.”

Actress Viola Davis, Reverend Al Sharpton, actress and comedian Mindy Kaling, tennis great Billie Jean King, and many others, including The Obama Foundation, also wished her well, as ET Online noted.

Since the Obamas left the White House in 2017, Michelle Obama has since been able to decompress.

“It was like a big exhale right after we left office,” Barack Obama told People.
