Neil Ungerleider is currently WCVB-TV's Digital and Multimedia manager. He was previously the assistant news director for the station since December 1997. Mr. Ungerleider has also served as director of WCVB-TV's online services, managing it's first Web site, initially known as '5 Online,' which was consistently rated among the top five television Web sites in the country. Before joining the station, Mr. Ungerleider worked from 1982 to 1984 for Boston's WHDH Radio as a general assignment reporter. From 1978 to 1982, he was an assistant director of news and programming for Boston's WEEI-AM news radio, having previously served that station as its executive news editor from 1972 to 1977. From 1977 to 1978, he was a news producer and assignment editor for Boston's PBS station, WGBH-TV. He began working for WCVB-TV as a news assignment editor in 1984 and was promoted in 1985 to investigative editor. He then became the executive producer of WCVB-TV's investigative news unit in 1990. In 1991, he was promoted to managing news editor. [CR-LF][CR-LF]During his tenure at the station, WCVB-TV has won every major award in broadcast journalism. In 2002, the station won a National Headliner Award for its coverage of September 11, 'The Boston Investigation.' 'Inside Bridgewater,' Mr. Ungerleider's 1987 series about the Massachusetts state hospital for the criminally insane, won him a prestigious George Foster Peabody Award, a Robert F. Kennedy Award, a National Headliner Award and the UPI Award for National Investigative Reporting. In 1990, 'Reading, Writing...Reality,' a news series about the Boston school system, won him both a Gabriel and an Ohio State Award. Mr. Ungerleider's 1991 series, 'Punishment Without a Crime,' about the imprisonment of innocent alcoholic women in Massachusetts, won him the prestigious Silver Gavel Award from the American Bar Association.
