Doug Mitchell's responsibilities include development, editing, and production of the Intern Edition for NPR. He has spent the last 10 years teaching the next generation of journalists. He was sent to the Universidad de Catolica in Santiago, Chile, for four months to teach a laboratory class for students and hold seminars for professionals on U.S. public radio journalism and digital radio production. He has also served as an overnight editorial assistant for Morning Edition. [CR-LF][CR-LF]Since then, he has worked for a number of NPR programs, including Weekend Edition Saturday, Weekend All Things Considered, and Weekly Edition. He has reported on a variety of stories, ranging from nuclear waste on an Indian reservation to economic and environmental sustainability in the Yucatan Peninsula and Wilapa Bay, as well as an all-night vigil at San Quentin Prison in California for a man who was subsequently executed. He is project manager for NPR's Next Generation Radio, helping train minority students in radio journalism. Mitchell was awarded a fellowship through the International Center for Journalists in Washington, D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in journalism (radio, television, and film) from Oklahoma State University.
