Pete McDaniel has been employed by The New York Times Company since 1979, serving as sports editor of one of their regional newspapers, The Hendersonville (N.C.) Times News, for 12 years. From October 1993 until July 1997, he was a senior writer for Golf World Magazine. In July 1997 he joined Golf Digest as a senior writer, where his primary responsibility was collaborating on instruction articles with Tiger Woods. He has chronicled Woods' career since 1994, when he wrote the cover story for Golf World's Man of the Year issue. He is the winner of several North Carolina Press Association writing awards. He is also a recipient of the Black Achievers in Industry Award, presented annually by the Harlem YMCA. McDaniel obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in English in 1974 from the University of North Carolina in Asheville.
