Leyla Doss

Leyla Doss is an Audio Journalist and Visual Storyteller based in New York, United States

Leyla has worked in research, analysis, journalism and communications. She has an MA in Middle Eastern Law and Politics from SOAS, University of London, and a BA with a double-major in Political Science and Media Studies from the University of Toronto. Leyla is currently the Communications Manager for The Nile Project. She is also the co-founder of bilingual news and analysis start-up, Mada Masr. She has worked for international and local news outlets including the Financial Times, the Guardian and Egypt Independent.

Experienced award-winning NY-based trilingual (English, Arabic, Italian) audio and print journalist, Middle East and North Africa (MENA) analyst, and narrative change strategist. 10+ years of international experience in journalism, strategic communications, and MENA political and geopolitical analysis.

Recent graduate student from Columbia University's journalism program where I specialzied in audio production. Audio portfolio includes: long-form audio pieces (including a master's project), mid-length enterprise stories, day reporting news stories, two-way host interviews, newscasts and experience in various senior and executive roles such as host, senior editor, senior product and executive producer for an hour-long radio show.

Extensive journalism experience reporting on current affairs and politics for international outlets such as the Financial Times, The Guardian and others.

Co-founder of Egypt-based global prizewinning news site, Mada Masr, described by The Guardian as "the news outlet keeping press freedom alive in Egypt."
