Julie Carey is a general assignment reporter with a focus on covering Virginia issues, particularly politics. She has reported on issues such as child abuse, prison and parole policies, and statewide elections. She was the lead reporter in the Lee Malvo sniper trial. She also has covered the Virginia Military Institute and the integration of women into the corps. She provided daily coverage of the Kenneth Starr Grand Jury Investigations and the impeachment trial of President Bill Clinton. She joined NEWS4 in 1992. Prior, she worked as a general assignment reporter at KSDK-TV in St. Louis and as a reporter/anchor at WTHR-TV in Indianapolis. She began her career as a reporter/anchor in her home state of Iowa at KCRG-TV in Cedar Rapids. Carey lives in Alexandria, Virginia with her husband and two children who attend Charles Barrett Elementary School and George Washington Middle School. She graduated from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana with a degree in journalism.
